A Phun Combination
Summary: The Super Ball IX, was Phish's ninth festival, which took place July 1-3, 2011 at Watkins Glen International, New York. The event was held at an F1 Indy Race Car Track. Phish played 9 sets over three days.
Like previous Phish festivals, the event included numerous activities, attractions and art installations in addition to a series of performances by the band. One of these activities was a WIFFLE ball tournament.
The tournament pre-registration was capped at 90 teams!! We had 5 back to back pages full of other teams trying to get on the waiting list. Every team that pre-registered showed up to play. People dressed up in outfits and some looked homeless.
Rules included: 4 balls 3 strikes - Pie Shaped Fields. No Tag rule, nothing fancy just plain old fashion rules, no double plays. The event was set up by Dave Anderson, the brother and fellow Lawn Boys teammate of Jon Anderson. Dave's younger brother Ty pitched in along with fellow Golden Stickers Chris 'Pelt' Peltier and Nick 'Moon' Amato.
We worked with a festival contact named Beth, she was one of the few people who kept on Phish inc when they broke up. All rules and prizes were ran by the band so they had to ok everything. First Place prize were Tickets to another Phish concert, second place prize was a years supply of Phish food from Ben & Jerry's.
